How do we decide which books to keep or purchase for our library media center?
What if you think a book should not be in our library media center? Maybe you disagree with the information in it and think no one should be able to read the book. What can you do? Click here to access FCPS Reg. No. 500-39 Reconsideration of Instructional Materials Already In Use.

Do you have books at home that you no longer read? Or do you have a beanbag or a chair that you think would be a great addition to our library media center? Do you have games or puzzles that you no longer play with at your house? You are allowed to donate items to our library media center. However, first our principal will need to take a look at the items. Click here to learn more about FCPS Reg. No. 200-33 Donations. Keep in mind that if you are donating a book, the item must follow FCPS selection policies for library books. To learn more about our selection policies, please click here.

Books do get lost from time to time. Sometimes they even get damaged. Maybe you took your library book to your grandparents' home, left it there, and they threw it away. Or maybe your brother wanted to read it and now he says he does not know where he put it. Or perhaps you dropped your library book in a rain puddle. It happens. If you lost or book or if it is too damaged to be part of our library collection you will be asked to pay for the cost of the book so we can buy another copy for our library. Click here to learn about FCPS Reg. No. 500-32 Replacement of Lost or Damaged Instructional Materials.

It is important for library media specialists to conduct regular inventories of the library collection to determine if the books in the library match our records. The goal is to inventory the entire collection over a two-year period. Half of the collection will be inventoried every year. A detailed document showing how to conduct an inventory using the TLC program is provided to all library media specialists.
